While appearing as a guest on the technology podcast TWIT, internet entrepreneur Jason Calacanis revealed how Californian Lambroughini and Ferrari drivers avoid getting speeding tickets. They pay off the cops.

According to Calacanis a $10,000 contribution to the CHP 11-99 FOUNDATION will get you a special license plate that raises the speed limit to 100 MPH. Calacanis was obviously pleased with the idea of buying favors from the police while the host of TWIT, Leo Laporte, immediately declared the practice to be “criminal”.

Although Laporte seemed to be surprised to hear that the police are for sale this sort of thing goes on all over the United States and is not limited to the wealthy.

People who don’t have $10,000 to keep the cops of their back have at least three other options, two of which don’t cost you dollars.

Contribute to the local patrolman’s association. Similar to what Calacanis described but it should only cost you $50 to $100 a year. You’ll get a sticker that’s about twice as big as a credit card to put on your car. The sticker will show the year in which you contributed, this payoff has an expiration date.
Know a cop. That’s about all it takes to get a business card and a thumbnail sized sticker of a badge. Cops really like passing these out. You put the little sticker that looks like a badge on your license plate, this gives early warning to the cop who pulled you over not to start writing the ticket before you’ve had a chance to talk. When the cop asks where you got the sticker you had over the business card of the cop who gave it to you.
Be related to a cop. This is not for everybody but if you get a lot of tickets it may be something to consider. You will get a badge or two. At least one to carry with you and maybe an extra one to attach to your license plate. The badge will identify you as a wife, mother, brother or even a cousin of a cop. You can exceed the speed limit while talking on your cell phone while not wearing a seat belt while drinking a beer while everybody else is being tasered.

So don’t be jealous of Calacanis and his wealthy Tesla driving friends, you can be just like the “insiders” he refers to, breaking the law and getting away with it.

How many white people are too many? Eight according to Rick Reilly.

While broadcasting the Home Run Derby from Yankee Stadium on ESPN Reilly complained there were too many whites participating in the competition.

With no comment coming from ESPN, MLB, or MLBPA I can only assume that they approve of Reilly’s words.

By the way, one of the “white” players, Grady Sizemore, has a white parent and a black parent.

Cleveland Indians Should Sign Barry Bonds Immediately

The Cleveland Indians will be playing exhibition baseball for the remainder of this season.

Barry Bonds isn’t playing baseball because there is no team that wants to deal with the media hype that will follow him.

The Indians should sign Bonds immediately (don’t worry it’s just temporary). The season can’t get any worse for the Tribe, they have nothing to lose. Signing Bonds can only improve things.

The media hype will come and pass within a week to ten days. This will give teams that are headed to the playoffs a chance to see if Bonds still has it.

While he is with the Indians Bonds will have an opportunity to prove that he can still play and diffuse all of the media hype. This will result in Arizona, Chicago and Tampa on the phone asking for Barry.

I’m certain that if the Indians play this right they can deal Bonds at the trading deadline for at least a AA starting outfielder if not a AAA back up catcher.

In addition to acquiring Bonds I think Ritchie Sexon, Kenny Lofton, and Julio Franco would be excellent additions to the team.
